I discovered this album through Shawn Cee’s 2022 best songs recap. In the beginning, I didn’t enjoy the folk pop sound, but the lyrics on “The Place Where He Inserted The Blade” really spoke to me on a personal level. After one or two listens, I was sure this was the best song I could think of at the moment, right after Kendrick Lamar’s “Sing About Me, I’m Dying Of Thirst” from what used to be my absolute favourite album, 2012’s “good kid, m.A.A.d city”.

I started to enjoy the whole AFUT and BCNR sound after a while, I think it took me about five listens to really get used to it. Especially “Snow Globes” with its expanding soundstage and ultra-hard drum-focused mixing found its place in my heart. The last cut never fails to make me tear up a bit.

Around the time I found this record, I was just leaving a time where I was very emotionally vulnerable, including a years-long fight with a deep depression. I’d love to believe this album cemented this episode of my life into the past, helping me come free from the firm grip of it, helping me reflect on aspects I didn’t notice before.

Recently, I purchased the AFUT deluxe vinyl album box. I haven’t even unwrapped it yet, it just holds tons of personal value as an untouched collectible to me. As soon as I finish this semester though, I’ll give it a spin on my Dual 1019 turntable.

I think I’ll publish a personal ranking/list of my favourite albums in the coming days, and maybe details on the records on it in the future.

Thanks for reading my first blog post, see you soon
